About Us

Company Profile

The Explorer Group was formed in 1998, but our leading brands were already well established much further back in touring history. Elddis, Buccaneer and Compass are synonymous with caravans and motorhomes and the way of life they offer. They are among the best known, most liked and respected brand names in the UK enjoyed by many thousands of new and loyal customers alike. Brought under the umbrella of The Explorer Group, the UK's 2nd largest manufacturer, all three famous names are now produced in Consett, County Durham, close to the original Elddis factory at Delves Lane.

The Explorer Group is a progressive organisation with a large modern production facility, competing with the very best manufacturers that Europe has to offer. To ensure we remain competitive, components are sourced from around the world, and state of the art product test facilities in the UK and Holland are used to ensure that the highest standards are achieved. Skilled local employees have helped the company to become what it is and in whom we are investing our future. Substantial investments are planned in product developments, site facilities, production processes and systems, to ensure the delivery of world class products and services to all customers, business associates and supply partners.

Production & Design Process

Behind every successful product lies an efficient, happy and well motivated team. Over 400 people are involved in this process at Explorer. To be sucessful, production on this scale calls for sophistication in CAD and aesthetic design, expertise in the purchase of raw materials, along with experience and dedication from the people who bring the parts together to make the finished product. Caravans and motorhomes exist in a highly competitive marketplace so efficency has to be a high priority.

Explorer Group caravans run on highly developed German galvanised steel chassis, whilst the motorhomes use the latest Peugeot HDi turbo diesels; exterior design and construction involves increasing use of moulded panels made from glass reinforced plastics and ABS; on-board gas, hot and cold water and intricate electrical systems, and the precision fit of cabinetwork, all call for a complex yet smooth production process. In total, more than 3,500 components are involved in the production of a single caravan/motorhome at Explorer.
